Can I use Cytowave during competition?
Cytowave is not prohibited by any of the governing bodies when used by a veterinarian licensed in that state. Most state practice acts prohibit the use by non-licensed individuals except on their own horses. In general in the USA, the governing horse-sports bodies defer to the state laws and do not try to regulate medical devices. If you have any doubts, ask the veterinarian working the event.
Is Cytowave dangerous?
In a word, no. The core power factor for Cytowave is our gauss, which comes in well under 300. In fact, our current systems run around 60-70 max on the coils surface and about 30 in the targeted areas. Gauss power levels this low are not known to cause or have an analgesic effect on tissue nor have we found any outside studies that would indicate analgesic effects can be created at such low energy levels.
Most PEMF systems seem to operate at levels of gauss way beyond 300 and in fact, many PEMF systems operate at 1000+ gauss. This is dangerous. To read more on how dangerous PEMF systems can be, read this excellent article from Equimed.
FAQ - THE SCIENCE
How does Cytowave differ from Pulsed Electronic Magnetic Therapy?
Magnetic therapy uses pulsed electro-magnetic field therapy to increase circulation which could lead to tissue repair. Cytowave uses a non-pulsed magentic coil to deliver naturally derived biowaves (Squid Therapy Signals) back to the damaged tissue. In almost every case, the equine body recognizes the signals as their own, which typically results in rapid inflammation relief and tissue repair. To learn more about the science behind Cytowave, we encourage you to listen to the inventor, Richard Parker, discuss the product.
What are Squid Therapy Signals?
SQUID (Super Conductive Quantum Interference Device) technology was used to measure the wave forms for healthy and unhealthy tissue. The treatment algorithms are based on the difference between the healthy and unhealthy wave forms. The treatment is transmitted to the tissue with a mild electromagnetic energy.
Can Cytowave be used on humans or other animals?
Cytowave is intended for use as an equine therapy device.
FAQ - Treatments
Do I have to be trained to use Cytowave?
No. No specialized training is required and plenty of supporting materials are provided to ensure confidence when applying the treatment. However, it is strongly recommended that all clients consult a veterinarian to diagnose the condition and monitor treatment.
Will my horse feel anything during the treatment?
The coils may get slightly warm but generally not enough to notice.
Can I treat a horse that has a polo or standing wrap on?
Yes. But if at all possible, it is best to have nothing between the horses's leg and Cytowave applicator. Having the coils too far from the leg could decrease the effectiveness of the treatment.
Can I use Cytowave on a blistered shin?
Yes. However, to preserve the irritated skin from risk of infection, it would be best to have the area lightly bandaged before applying the leg applicator.
Do I need to do the full treatment?
Yes. Each treatment program starts with an initial signal to reduce inflammation, followed by the appropriate combination of signals to promote healing of the specific tissue type being treated.
Can I put the applicators on my horse while he is wet?
Yes. It is completely safe to put the cloth applicators on your horse when he is wet. This will not affect the treatment or the applicators.
Can I use Cytowave with other modalities?
Yes, Cytowave plays nicely with others. Even though we are quite awesome by ourselves, we are also an excellent addition to your toolbox. Cytowave generally boosts the efficacy of other treatments such as Stem Cell Therapy and PRP. We are the rising tide that indeed lifts other ships. Or horses.
Why do my leg coils keep moving?
After the leg coil pockets are clipped to the boot, the straps need to be tightened from both the top and bottom of the coil. This will prevent the coils from shifting positions even if the horse moves. We also provide coil belts with every complete leg applicator to help provide additional stability.
Can I split the 60 minute treatment into two 30 minute treatments?
No. Each treatment program starts with an initial signal to reduce inflammation, followed by the appropriate combination of signals to promote healing of the specific tissue type being treated. Breaking up the program will decrease the effectiveness of healing the tissue.
Can I use a circular and oblong coil together on the back?
No. Only two oblong coil sets or two circular sets can be used together during dual treatments.
Do I need to tranquilize my horse for treatment?
No. Like any new piece of tack or equipment for a horse, the horse must be introduced to the unit. If a horse has been introduced properly (usually over dinner), to a winter blanket or a standing leg boot in the past, they should not have any issue with our applicators. However, in rare cases when sedation is preferred, it will not interfere with the treatment.
How often do I have to treat?
Each treatment program is different depending on the injury. Most injuries need to be treated on a daily basis during the healing process. Please refer to our treatment page for treatment guidelines and duration.
How do I put on applicators?
Please refer to our Introduction of Cytowave video for a complete tutorial on how to put on each applicator and run the controller for a treatment.
What is the depth of penetration of Cytowave?
The leg and back applicator coils (oblong) penetrate approximately 1.5 inches into the tissue. The hock applicator coils (circular) penetrate approximately 2 inches into the tissue. Keep in mind that some tissues are more responsive to the varying Cytowave waveforms and penetration for some tissue can be well over 10 inches for maintenance response.
Can I treat more than one area at one time, such as a back and leg?
No. Only one treatment type (such as ligament/tendon, fracture) within one type of applicator can be selected at one time. However, dual treatments of the same program with two of the same applicators can be used, such as two legs or two sets of coils on the back.
Can I do dual treatments?
Yes. Two of the same applicators can be used at the same time with the same treatment program, such as two legs or two sets of coils on the back, to treat bilateral injuries.
Do you recommend using Cytowave before or after a competition or show?
Both. Treatments will help your horse feel more relaxed before and usage after may help repair any micro-damage to the tissue.
FAQ - Safety
Can I use Cytowave on a pregnant mare?
At present, we have no data on treating a pregnant mare and recommend that you consult with your veterinarian.
Can I treat an animal that has metal pins in its body?
Due to the use of a low power magnetic coil, the metal must be titanium or stainless steel. Any high iron metal can be agitated during treatment which in turn could induce stress in the animal being treated.
Can I operate my cell phone while performing a treatment?
Yes. Cellular use will not interfere with the Cytowave treatment.
Can I use Cytowave too much?
No. Cytowave can only help. It cannot be overused but using it beyond recommended guidelines will not increase healing.
I've heard other modalities may emit harmful radiation and are not safe to be around. Is Cytowave safe?
Yes. Cytowave is completely safe to operate around humans, even though it is not intended for use on humans.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Why won't my Cytowave controller turn on?
This could happen if the controller was dropped from a significant heght or there was a power surge thru the outlet. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 844-298-9283.
My Cytowave controller turns on but there is only a blank - blue screen and a slight humming noise.
This could happen if the controller was dropped from a significant height or there was a power surge through the outlet. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 844-298-9283.
Why are my coils too hot to touch?
Treatments should never be performed if the air temperature is over 95 F. During hot summer months, please use Cytowave during the cooler times of the day, such as early morning or late evening.
The clips on my leg boot are broken, what do I do?
Please contact our Customer Service Department at 844-298-9283.
